A report on Times Now states that the audio file mentions the names of four people whose numbers are also saved on Desai’s phone. A forensic team has presently taken the phone for examination.

According to reports, Desai was reeling under a financial crisis with an accumulated debt of over Rs 250 crore. Reports on IANS stated that Desai, his wife Naina and their firm had availed a loan of Rs 150 crore in 2016, and then another loan of Rs 31 crore in 2018, totalling Rs 181. His financial woes began in 2019 when he started delaying payments. By June 2022, he accumulated a total outstanding amount of Rs 252 crore, following which the insolvency proceedings were initiated in end-July.
