Koenigsegg has revealed the details of its Dark Matter Raxial Flux 6-phase E-motor and the science fiction-like tech behind it has left many in amazement. Moreover, the E-motor has made its debut in the production spec Gemera hypercar, which was showcased at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Before we dive deeper into how the Dark Matter works, in terms of specs, it produces 800 hp of power and 1,250 Nm of torque. What is even more astonishing is that despite generating hypercard level of power, the E-motor weighs just 40 kg, which is comparable to the weight of an electric motor that one can find in a every day electric commuter car.

The Dark Matter Raxial Flux 6-phase E-motor’s design looks like it belongs inside a weapons system or sci-fi movie. The motor unit is finished in a camouflage style black and white pattern and finished with a black metal brace that stretches across the unit. In the Gemera, the Dark Matter E-motor delivers power to all four wheels, along with electric torque vectoring on each axle. The ‘raxial’ part in the motor’s name refers to it being a mix between radial and axis. The motor reportedly has a maximum speed of 8,500 rpm.

To estimate the kind of advancement Dark Matter symbolises for Koenigsegg, the pre-production Gemera hypercar had showcased three different electric motors and a single Dark Matter motor has replaced all three in the production version. The E-motor is further paired to a 2.0-litre, three-cylinder, twin-turbo engine and both push out a combined 1,400 hp in the Gemera. But wait, that’s not all, the Koenigsegg Gemera also gets a HV8 version that features a V8 engine which produces a combined 2,300 hp. Koenigsegg engineers were able to fit the bigger V8 thanks to how compact the Dark Matter E-motor is.
